STUDENT'S UNION

Like all colleges administered according to the C.U. status Sonarpur Mahavidyalaya has a democratically elected Students' Union whose office bearers are selected from among elected class Representatives. The General Secretary of the Student's Union is a member of the College Governing Body. The main activities of this Union are

  • To guide and assist freshers.
  • To organise different cultural and social programs throughout the year.
  • To organise outdoor and indoor sports competitions.
  • To maintain healthy communication between teaching and non-teaching staff and students.
  • To provide academic interest of the students.
  • *To publish Annual Magazine and Wall Magazine in due course.
  • To conduct all academic Tours and Field work through out the year.

In fact, the students Union is the platform for the students of different communities and religious faith, the student's Union is the platform for the students of different communities are religious faiths to come together for a common cause. In general the Union arranges the different functions with the help and co-operation of teachers. The teachers also lend their assuistance in th publicatin of the college Magazine which provides a forum to the students to express their literary talent and capacity for innovative thinking.

STUDENTS' BENEFIT AND SUPPORT SYSTEM

a) Stipend & Free Studentship :

Application for free studentship must be addressed to the Principal in the prescribed form before notified date. Boys and Girls who have secured at least 50% and 45% respectively in the examination of Board/Council (or equivalent final examination) are eligible to put in their application.

But here is word of caution. Students enjoying scolarships, stipends, Full free/ Half free Studentship may find their priviliges withdrawn (i) if they show unsatisfactory academic progress or are guilty of misconduct. (ii) If they remain absent from college on grounds other than illness.

NOTICE BOARD

Each and every student must consult the general notice board as also the departmental notice board regularly. The college will not take any responsibility if any student fails to observe any important notice.

STUDENT GRIEVANCE REDRESSAL CELL

A grievance Redressal cell has been operating in the interest of the students which includes a body comprising of teaching and non-teaching staff, to address every inconsistency and demand put forward by the students. A 'Complaint Box' has been set up. The problems are minutely studied for redressal and solutions are sought for the benefit of students by the members of the committee.

COMMON ROOM

There are two separate Common Rooms for male and female students of this College. Newspaper and journals are subscribed for the students which are available in the Common Room on production of Common Room Cards. Provision for indoor games like table tennis, carrom and chess are also there.

STUDENTS HEALTH HOME

The College is affiliated to the students' Health Home established by the University of Calcutta with the main center at the crossing of A.P.C. Road & Lenin Sarani at Moulali. Students can get medical facility and specialized treatment with an annual subscription of Rs. 4/- only.

COLLEGE COMPUTER CENTRE

There is a Computer Centre with a well equipped laboratory under the direct management of the college administration through a MOU with a reputed computer concern. For imparting IT based short term Career Oriented Courses to the interested students. At present two of its software Courses have been approved and accredited by the State Council of Technical Education, Govt. of West Bengal. These Courses are :

A. Certificate in Computer Fundamentals.

B. Certificate in Financial Accounting.

WBSCTE will monitor the teaching learning process, hold examination at the term end and issue certificates to the successful candidates. Apart from WBSCTE approved courses the computer centre conducts C, C++, Java as independent combined courses.

Course fees are moderate and much below the prevalent market price.

A separate prospectus with information on different courses, modules and fees can be had from the College Computer Centre.

CONCESSION

Tution fee concessions may be available to a few meritorious students coming from economically backward families at the sole discretion of the college authorities.
