The George Telegraph Training Institute
The college felt that after passing out from the college, the students who need some job oriented training to get a job and find a place in the society. The college can not deny it's responsibility in this regard. So the college enterd into a tie-up with the most reputed institute of West Bengal which is "The George Telegraph" who have opened an admission wing in our college for the college students. The students taking admission in this institute will get training for
- School Service Commission
- West Bengal Civil Service Examination
- Miscellaneous Examination
- Clerkship Examination
and for many other recruit examination and job oriented courses.
The college entered into a memorandum of understanding with this premier institution that if number of admission exceeds one hundred then the admitted students will be trained within the college premises instead of the regional training centre, where the students are currently being trained.
AWARDS
Four awards have been instituted from this year with endowment created out of donations received from three retired teachers and the present Principal. The purpose of these awards is to inculcate competitiveness among the students for the betterment of their performances in the university examinations and also to create awareness among them about their cultural history and heritage.
Prof. Pranab Kumar Dasgupta, retired Selection Grade lecturer in English, has donated Rs. 5000/- in memory of his venerable teacher Late Prof. Anil Mukhopadhyay for awarding a prize to a student obtaining highest marks in English honours in the final public examination.
Prof.. Purnendu Guha, ex-Selection Grade lecturer in Political Science, has donated Rs. 5000/- in memory of Sir Ashutosh Mukherjee, the tiger of Bengal, for awarding a prize to a student securing highest marks in Political Science in the University final examination.
Dr. Samaresh Majumdar, retired Reader in Bengali, has donated Rs. 5000/- for awarding a prize to a student securing highest marks in Bengali in loving memory of his father late Sailesh Chandra Majumdar.
Sri Gokul Chandra Das, the retired Principal, has donated Rs. 10, 000/- for creating an endowment to award a prize to a student securing highest marks in any subject, Honours or General, in the University final examination for the year in memory of Dwarakanath Vidyabhusan, the editor of famous 19th century Bengali journal 'Somprakash'.
The value of the prizes will be equivalent to the interest accrued annually to the donations and will be distributed to the receipients in the annual cultural programme of the college.
STIPEND / PRIZES / TUTION FEE CONCESSION
In order to apply for a stipend or free/Half free studentship the student must apply to the principal of the college. Ten percent students passing in the first or second division are awarded full and half free studentship respectively by the G.B. subject to the usual rules and conditions. Application can be made on a plain paper and must be accompanied by two certificates from respectable persons, regarding the financial condition of the applicants' family. Special attention is given to the progress and attendance of stipend holders. Each year a few one-time Grants are awarded to needy students by Students Welfare Committee for buying books and partially financing collge educational excursions.
Longer absence for reasons other than illness will entail loss of Scholarship for the whole period.
LABORATORY
For the Students of Bio-Science department, Computer Science Department, Physics Department and also of Geography Department there are six separate and well-equipped laboratories. Botany, Zoology, Physiology and Geography laboratories have been set up to impart practical training to the students of there subjects. All laboratories provide latest equipments and necessary furniture.
CLASSES AND EXAMINATION
Classes are generally held between 10-30 a.m. and 4-30 p.m. on each day except Sundays. Class routine provides for intensive study of all subjects, as per University and Government rules. Attendance at classes is obligatory. Permission to appear at public examinations of Calcutta University depend on satisfactory performance and progress in class tests, Annual and Test Examination of the College. No students will be allowed to sit for the University Examinations if he or she remain absent in the class tests and Test Examinations of the College.
IDENTITY CARD
Identity card will be issued to each bonafide student of the college after admission on production of a passport size photograph.
COLLEGE MAGAZINE
The college magazine is usually published once a year by the student's union and every student is entitled to have a copy of it. Students get the opportunity to give expression to their creative talents through writing in the magazine.
CYCLE STAND
There is a cycle stand in front of the main gate. The students using bicycle must must keep their cycles at the stand. Cycles must not be placed elsewhere in the campus.
PHOTOCOPY FACILITY
The college has its own-xerox machine. Every student can avail of the facilities at a subsidized rate.
BOOK STALL & CHEAP STORE
The college runs a cheap store which sells books paper and other stationary goods at a concessional rate to the students. The college remains open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
COLLEGE CANTEEN
A canteen function from inside the college campus. Light snacks, tea, coffee and cold drinks etc. are available at reasonable rates.
ALUMNI ASSOCIATION
The college has a Govt. Reg. Alumni Association. It is an organisation involved in various activities of social relevence, cultural recreation and mutual co-operation. Being a New College the Alumni Association too is in its embryonic stage but the college feels that in the years to come this organisation will bloom into a full-fledged link line between the present and the passed.
